The Top Food Franchises of 2019

Top Food FranchisesTeriyaki Madness was featured in Entrepreneur’s Top Food Franchises of 2019! Ranking in at #3 on the Asian Food list, TMAD was recognized for our start up costs and our growing number of Teriyaki Shops (We’re at 54 now!).

According to Entrepreneur contributor, Tracy Stapp Herold, “Ask someone to name a franchise, and chances are it will be a food-based one. Some of the biggest and best-loved franchise brands center around food, and perhaps that’s no surprise — after all, everybody eats. And more than that, everybody enjoys eating. Food isn’t just a necessity — it’s a desire, one that draws in both customers and franchisees.”

And we agree! Between our impressive executive team, building new processes and systems and unimaginable growth, consumers and franchisees are going crazy for the Madness! We are expected to hit a minimum 500 units by year 2026 which includes doubling TMAD’s Teriyaki Shops in 2019.

More than one fifth of franchises that applied for the 2019 Franchise 500 ranking were food based franchises. The Top Food Franchises of 2019 list was ranked off of the scores each company received from the Franchise 500 list. The company took into consideration more than 150 data points om the areas of cost, feeds, size, growth, franchise support, brand strength, and financial stability.

Fast Casual – #7 Teriyaki Madness

Denver-based Teriyaki Madness saw 2018 as an opportunity to push outside its four walls. The 50-unit Asian fast casual brand rolled out delivery and catering and launched a mobile app for ordering, pickup and connecting with many of the third-party delivery apps.

Those upgrades paid off as the chain reported that its off-premise sales increased 30%along with traffic counts and average ticket size in 2018. Same-store sales were up 12%, which was 19 times above the industry average. Profitability was also up 23%, and AUVs exceeded $1 million.

“We’re on a constant quest to keep our guests happy and satisfied,” CEO Michael Haith said.

The brand’s 2019 growth plan calls for an additional 50 shops to open in new states as well as international growth. It will also sign agreements to develop up to 108 shops.

Also helping Teriyaki Madness increase sales and profitability was the addition of a variety of technology deployments, including Revel’s POS iPad-based system, Chatmeter’s social media and reputation management platform, ProfitKeeper to manage profit and losses, and Naranga as a digital launch platform, support center and digital library for franchisees.

Teriyaki Madness describes its menu as “Seattle teriyaki,” a reference to the Asian-bowl joints that dot the progressive Pacific Northwest city. The fast-casual concept has grown from its first location in 2003 to about 50 stores nationwide, but it talks a much bigger story. It has signed deals for 140 new franchise stores and also expects to have 100 units open within a decade in Mexico, where its first international outpost is slated to open later this year.
